Dogs are restricted in some areas of Porirua City
There are areas in Porirua City where dogs are prohibited. These restrictions apply at all times or are seasonal. For more information on the restrictions, check the dog Exercise Areas Map and Dog Prohibited Areas page from the link below.
Areas approved for dog exercising
Council has approved specific areas within Porirua City as Exercise Areas where you may exercise your dog off lead, provided it is under continuous control at all times, as set out in the table below.

* Please note that these areas have on-going possum control measures in place. Dog owners should ensure their dogs are not let loose in the bush or allowed to scavenge carcasses as they may be in danger of poisoning.
Dogs on Beaches
Dogs may be exercised on the following beaches, unless prohibited between 9.00 am and 7.00 pm each day from 1 November to 31 March each year between the dog beach ban signs:
- Titahi Bay Beach
- Karehana Beach
- Paremata Beach
- Plimmerton Beach
- Motukaraka Point Beach
- Pukerua Bay Beach
