Importing Dogs into New Zealand
This page explains the action that must be taken in order to import a dog into New Zealand and the subsequent registration requirements.
You must have approval to import dogs into New Zealand
Before you import a dog or any other animal into New Zealand, you must first obtain written approval of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries Biosecurity New Zealand (MAFBNZ).
Imported dogs must be registered
Dogs that have been imported into New Zealand must be registered with Council as soon as practical after their release from quarantine.
The registration process in these cases is the same as for any other new dog registration.
You will also require however Ministry of Agriculture and Forestries Biosecurity New Zealand certification that your dog has been correctly imported and has passed all quarantine requirements.
