Funeral Directors Registration
This page explains the registration requirements and processes for funeral directors and their premises in Porirua City.
If you operate or intend to operate as a Funeral Director, you must register with Council.
Complete the Registration of Funeral Director form and pay the Funeral Directors Registration fee.
Registration is renewable on 1 September in each year.
Your mortuary must comply with the standards set out in the Health (Burial) Regulations 1946.
The regulations detail the location, construction method, work surfaces, hygiene standards, facilities and maintenance standards required.
Your premises will be inspected by our Environmental Health Officer.
Once your Certificate of Registration is issued, it must be clearly displayed in your premises for public viewing.
Change of ownership
The new owner of an existing funeral director business must notify us of the change of ownership and pay the Transfer of Ownership fee.
