Gaming Machine and TAB Venues
This page provides information on the licensing requirements for premises used as gambling venues in Porirua City, i.e., gaming machine and/or TAB.
The Gaming Machine and TAB Venues Policy was reviewed at the Strategy Finance and Regulatory Committee meeting held 10 June 2010 (Item 329/10) and adopted by Council at its meeting held on Wednesday 23 June 2010 (Item 340/10).
Gaming and TAB venues must be licensed
The Gambling Act 2003 controls the use of premises for gaming machine and TAB venues. Gaming machine and/or TAB venues are categorised as Class 4 gambling venues under the legislation.
Class 4 gambling may only be conducted by a corporate society that holds both a Class 4 Operator’s Licence and a Class 4 Venue Licence issued under the Act by the Secretary for Internal Affairs provided your society meets the criteria prescribed by the legislation.
You require Council consent for Class 4 Gambling venue licences
You require Council consent for your Class 4 Venue licence application if:
- You are proposing to increase the number of machines operated at your Class 4 venue; or
- You are applying for a new Class 4 venue where such a licence has not been held for the proposed venue by any society in the last 6 months.
Whether or not this consent will be granted will depend on your application’s compliance with Council’s Gaming and TAB Venue Policy.
Apply to Council for your Class 4 gambling venue licence consent by printing off the form Consent Application for Class 4 Gambling and TAB Venue Licence from the link below, complete the form and file it with Council’s Customer Services Centre.
There is a consent application fee payable (see link below).
