From its ornately worked porches and flowing lawns, the view of Porirua’s sparkling twin harbours is breathtaking. Nestled among the rose gardens and flowering shrubs, protected from the winds by a magnificent stand of historic pines, Gear Homestead is an unforgettable picture.
Built in 1882 by the pioneer business magnate, James Gear, the Homestead offers an unrivalled blend of elegance, history, privacy and practicality.
Weddings and Special Events
Gear Homestead is on 4 hectares of gardened grounds and offers a picturesque setting for wedding ceremonies and photo opportunities. The Homestead is ideal for wedding ceremonies, receptions and private functions or parties for up to 80 guests for a formal seated dinner and 100 for a standing cocktail function.
Seminars and Team Building
Gear Homestead is a popular venue for seminars and team building days.
The largest room is able to seat 50 comfortably in classroom style or 80 in theatre style. The Homestead also has smaller rooms that can be used for break-out areas or smaller boardroom-type meetings.
With large lawn areas surrounding the homestead, there is plenty of space for outdoor activities including use of the petanque and croquet sets available.

On-site catering is available with extensive menus to suit all.

Location
Gear Homestead is centrally situated in Porirua City, on the hill overlooking the harbour. It is easily accessible from State Highway 1 at the Whitford Brown intersection in Okowai Road, and is well signposted.
