Your Legal Responsibility

Vehicles that fail to display a Warrant of Fitness, Certificate of Fitness, Registration and Licence in the correct manner are in breach of the Land Transport Act 1998. The New Zealand Transport Agency website shows the current legal obligations of vehicle owners in New Zealand (see link below).

On 10 November 2011 Council gave Porirua's Parking Wardens the mandate and delegated authority to infringe non-compliant vehicles parked in the public places of Porirua.

What a non-compliant vehicle could cost you

  • Warrant of Fitness - light vehicles ($200.00)
  • Certificate of Fitness - heavy vehicles ($600.00)
  • Registration plate ($200.00)
  • Vehicle Licence ($200.00)

I've received a warning, what should I do?

If you received a flyer before 27 February 2012, then it is likely you need to make your car compliant. The flyer is a reminder that you should do this before the 27th.
