Working in the Road Corridor - Hours of Work
This pages describes the specific hours during the day when work may occur within the road corridor in Porirua City, depending on location and time of year.
Normal Hours of Work
Hours of work within the road corridor are generally 7:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday to Saturday, inclusive.
However, certain roads may have more stringent restrictions placed on them depending on the location of businesses, and schools or due to traffic flows. Work in these areas start (including set up) after 9:00 am and the site is to be clear by 3:00 pm, this is especially important during school terms.

Congestion Sensitive Areas
Areas that are sensitive to congestion are subject to “no work” hours, where work in the road corridor will not be permitted.
- Semple Street - Saturday 9 am to 5 pm
- Parumoana Street - Saturday 9 am to 5 pm
- Cobham Court – Friday Midnight to Saturday Midday
Working outside the normal hours of work
Night work may be permitted in non-residential areas by negotiation.
No night work may be carried out in residential areas.
The only exception to these restrictions is EMERGENCY WORK. Notification of such works shall be to email@example.com within 48 hours.
Please refer to “The Code of Practice for Utility Operators’ Access to Transport Corridors”, New Zealand Utilities Advisory Group (NZUAG) for the definition of EMERGENCY WORK and the procedure for lodging a Corridor Access Request (C.A.R.).
"No Work" Periods within Porirua City
"No Work" shall be carried out within Porirua City during Sundays or Public Holidays, except in special circumstances e.g. Scheduled Public refuse collection by authorized collector or for “emergency work”.
Christmas Periods of "No Work"
Central Business District (CBD) and Suburban Shopping Areas
No work shall be carried out within the Central Business District (CBD) of Porirua City between the dates of 1st December until 7th January.
“No Work” dates for Suburban Shopping areas will be dependent on the nature of the works involved and the location of the Shopping area but will normally be the same as for the CBD. Determining appropriate dates will be at the discretion of the Infrastructure Engineer.

The streets affected are:
Titahi Bay Road from Wineera Drive to Mungavin Bridge, Wineera Drive, Tutu Place,Semple Street, Parumoana Street, Norrie Street, Auty Lane,Jellicoe Street, Bullock Lane, Lyttelton Avenue, Hagley Street, Cobham Court, Blue Heron Lane, Kilkerran Place, Civic Place, Serlby Place, Lydney Place North, Lydney Place South, Ferry Place, Hartham Place North, Hartham Place South, Trask Place, Lodge Place,Walton Leigh Avenue, Kenepuru Drive from Titahi Bay Road to 29 Kenepuru Drive.
Further “No Work” Restrictions
With the exclusion of the Central Business District (CBD) and Suburban Shopping Areas, the “no work” period for the rest of Porirua City roading network during the Christmas holiday period is from the 19th December until 7th January (inclusive).
Note: In exceptional circumstances, apart from EMERGENCY WORK, the Road Protection Team may negotiate and approve any proposals to "Work" outside the stated above conditions.
