Porirua Whanau Centre
Who are we?
Porirua Whanau Centre is a not-for-profit group and one of six family service centres in New Zealand.
What do we do?
Mission Statement: "To provide culturally appropriate and integrated service in order to enhance the health, social, educational and economic well-being of our children and families".
The focus is on families with children from birth to 13 years old.
How can we help you?
There is a broad mix of services and they are delivered along the lines of a one stop shop.There are five family support services and they are:
- Information, Advice/Advocacy
- Parent Life Skills Programme
- Holiday Programme
- Education Programme
- Counselling Programme
The Whanau Centre provides a home interaction programme for parents and youngsters called the Hippy Programme and they have a Childcare Centre for pre-school children. Some free services are provided by other agencies at the Whanau centre including:
- Whitireia Community Law Centre
- Childrens Ear Van
- Inland Revenue Department
- Work and Income
