Who are we?

Porirua Healthy Safer City Trust is your local Safer Community Council.

What do we do?

Provide a safe and healthy environment for all citizens in a spirit of co-operation which enables change to occur constructively.

The Trust has two focus areas:

1. Healthy Cities – a project of the World Health Organisation established in the early 1980’s. Healthy Cities is health in a broad holistic sense.

2. Safer Cities – the Trust facilitates appropriate community responses to specific crime concerns such as graffiti and vandalism, car crime, violence and safer streets.

How can we help you?

The Trust works with others to make Porirua City a safer place to live, work and play

Projects have included:

  • The establishment and management of the tuakana programme for young people
  • Facilitating community network meetings
  • Conducting local safety surveys
  • Education on the issues and impact of methamphetamine use
  • Working with others for Porirua to be accredited by the World Health Organisation as a Safe Community
  • Participating in “Street Makeovers”
  • Audits of specific areas with a view to “Designing out Crime”
