Historic Building Owners
This page gives information for historic building owners who wish to manage and maintain their property.
Porirua's historic buildings are an important part of the City's heritage and unique character. These buildings are best managed when they continue to be used, and when their stories are told and appreciated by the communities whose history they reflect.
When planning changes to a historic building (such as restoration, renovations, or additions), it is good to get professional advice about how best to manage the historic heritage of the building. Following is a list of conservation architects that are able to offer professional advice.
The above list of architects is simply a list of architects with known expertise in heritage buildings. Their listing on this website does not confer any recommendation by the Council. Updates to this list can be requested by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. More information about architects can be found on the New Zealand Institute of Architects website.
The New Zealand Historic Places Trust is also able to offer advice and support for owners of historic buildings. The Trust has a range of guidelines about good practices for dealing with historic buildings available through their website. The staff at the New Zealand Historic Places Trust Wellington office are also able to be contacted to provide advice and support. The Wellington office's phone number is (04) 801 5088 or visit the Trust's website: www.historic.org.nz.
Even though historic buildings are best managed by continued use, Council recognises that maintaining, renovating and restoring historic buildings can be challenging. Some assistance may be available from Council for historic heritage projects. For more information, please email email@example.com or refer to our Heritage Grants page.
