Road Closures Status and Temporary Speed Restrictions

This page lists the status of state highways, and main roads in Porirua City.

Porirua City Council compiles this list in conjunction with local roading authorities, emergency services and contractors. This list will be updated with road closures, temporary speed restrictions and openings as they come to hand.

Road closures

Note the road following road closures:

  • Takutai Road (Pukerua Bay) – closed, but accessible from each end
  • Moonshine Road – closed from 9am to 2.30pm weekdays (Monday to Friday), with possible closures for emergency works

Road and remedial works

Pukerua Bay tree trimming and road works

Work continues from Monday 24 July

Tree trimming will be done along State Highway 1 through Pukerua Bay to help avoid future power blackouts in stormy conditions.

Stop/go traffic control will be in place during the works.

The noisiest work will be done during the early part of the night.

Whitford Brown Roadworks

Weather permitting our Roading contractor Downer will be undertaking repairs to  various sections of the road 18-19 July from  the intersection with Okowai Road up to the roundabout by Countdown. Work hours will be between 9.00am and 3.00pm with Stop/Go traffic management.

Further repairs to the road and roundabout are programmed to commence on the 26th July.

Advance notice of work on Paekākāriki Hill Road

Planned slip remedial work is taking place on Paekākāriki Hill Road (opposite 644 Paekākāriki Hill Road) in July. The work is expected to take 4–6 weeks, with a planned start date of July. The specific details of traffic impacts are not confirmed and we will provide information closer to the time, including a set start date. Flightys Road

A temporary 60km/h speed restriction has been put in place for the next six months for Flightys Road in Judgeford. This is to ensure the safety of all commuters who share the road with heavy machinery being used in the construction of Transmission Gully. Thank you for reducing your speed.

  • Well-maintained roads are an important part of keeping people safe. While we aim to do this work with as little disruption as possible, we know that roadworks can be inconvenient.
  • Please drive carefully through work sites and stick to the temporary speed limits.
  • If you’re driving around the Wellington region, roadworks on the state highway network may affect your travel plans.
