Porirua Gymsports

What sort of sporting club are we?

Porirua Gymsports, with the support of Porirua City Council, operates out of Te Rauparaha Arena.  The club has a fully-equipped gym and offers classes for boys and girls of all ages and stages, from preschool through to competitive level gymnastics and trampolining. Adult classes are available when there is sufficient demand.

Porirua GymSports is affiliated to GymSports New Zealand and our competitive athletes participate in sanctioned events around the country. We currently have competitors involved in the following GymSports codes: Men's Artistic Gymnastics (MAG), Women's Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) and Trampoline (TRA). Our recreational gymnasts are offered the opportunity to earn badges within the GymSports New Zealand Kiwi GymFun and Incentive Award programmes.

Classes are run on a termly basis, but new members are welcome to join at any time.

How can we help you?

Our focus is on providing enjoyable, accessible programmes that encourage participation in physical activity.

Our action-packed programmes are based on fundamental movement skills that are transferable to all other sports, and provide continual challenges as children progress. Our friendly, qualified coaches will help develop your child's balance, strength, flexibility, spatial awareness, coordination and confidence in a fun environment.

The classes we offer are:

Preschool – a fun-focused structured class for 3 and 4 year olds introducing and developing fundamental movement skills using traditional and adapted equipment, games, circuits, music and imagery.

Recreational Gymnastics and Trampolining – for beginning school-aged gymnasts we offer the Kiwi GymFun programme, covering six levels of achievement. Children work through these levels with their coach and move on as they master each level. For more advanced athletes there is the opportunity to learn more complicated skills and routines and be evaluated by an external assessor to achieve Incentive Award badges.

Competitive Gymnastics and Trampolining – by selection only.

Schools programme – Porirua GymSports is accredited to deliver GymSports New Zealand's foundation skills programme moveMprove. The programme is linked to Key Competencies in the New Zealand Curriculum and run onsite at participating schools.
