This page describes the Porirua Pathfinder application, an interactive mapping system showing the walkways and cycleways in Porirua City built by NorthSouth GIS Ltd of Whitby as part of the Porirua City Partner programme.
Pathfinder's interactive features
Porirua City has an extensive network of walking and cycling tracks totaling over 90 kilometres for the benefit of citizens and visitors alike. In an initiative to improve access to this resource, we have formed a partnership with Explorer Graphics Limited through Porirua’s City Partners Programme to create an interactive viewer to help you plan your leisure activities.
You can access this new application from the icon on the left, or the link below, but before you do that we thought it would be useful to explain how you can get maximum benefit.
Open Porirua Pathfinder in your web browser.
At its simplest, this map viewer allows you to see where all our tracks are. You can zoom in and understand where the tracks in your suburb are. The screenshot below shows you the main navigation tools.
Having identified walkways or cycle tracks that you’re interested in, you might want to understand any access limitations and features. The application allows you to click on a walkway which will bring up a rich set of information in a popup window.
Perhaps you want to go on a walk with specific characteristics - you want to walk a certain distance, you have a pushchair, or you want a more challenging walk. You can do this by using the Search tool. The screenshot below shows you the search window and results panel.
Porirua Pathfinder runs on most devices but requires a modern browser such as Chrome. Browser compatibility includes IE9+, Firefox 18+, Chrome 24+ and Safari 4+.
