Matariki Events

There’s a lot happening at Pātaka and around Porirua City for Matariki, the Māori New Year.  We have all the details here. 

1 June – 1 July
Te Wananga o Aotearoa display, The Spine, Pātaka, free, during normal opening hours 

9 June-16 July
Te Kāhui O Matariki – The Art of Matariki, Pātaka.
New Zealand artists explore what the star constellation means to them. Works include clay, painting, sculpture, carving, weaving and jewellery.

Saturday 24 June
Miromoda Runway Show, Pātaka, Doors open / VIP Experience starts 6:30pm (Runway show starts at 7:30pm)
Cost: General Admission $15 (purchase from Pataka reception). VIP experience $60 (contact Robert Baldock rbaldock@pcc.govt.nz)
The Miromoda Runway Show 2017 features collections from invited New Zealand designers and is a dynamic night of high fashion, followed by a runway pop up store – an experience not to be missed, get in quick for tickets as this will sell out.

Rising Stars Night Market, Cobham Ct, Porirua’s CBD, 5-9pm, free

Saturday 1 July
Heaven & Earth, Performing Arts Studio, Pātaka, 11am, 1pm and 3pm, limit 200 people per session. Koha entry. 
This 30 minute magical, glow in the dark puppet show is suitable for children of all ages and will explore the legend of Matariki and her sisters with innovative storytelling and an original sound track!
