From 2 April 2013 the Wellington City Council Housing Team will provide the tenancy management services on behalf of the Porirua City Council at the Council’s social housing units, collectively known as Moana Court. The Moana Court housing provides elderly residents with a secure and low cost accommodation, close to the shops and public transport.

From 2 April 2013, the most noticeable change for residents is that they will contact the Wellington City Council direct on (04) 499 4444 for all issues regarding with Moana Court.  Wellington City will refer all maintenance issues to Porirua City Council, so the residents will continue to see the familiar faces of the trades staff addressing the maintenance matters.  Prospective tenants making an inquiry about Moana Court or wishing to be added to the wait list can do so by contacting the above number.

The Wellington City Housing Team will provide a better service to residents, managed within a clear policy.  They will also provide appropriate social support and advocacy for residents who need it.

The Wellington City Council agreement guarantees that existing tenants can stay in their units for as long as they wish to.

Porirua City will adopt the Wellington City Council Housing Policy so that the properties can be managed alongside Wellington City's other properties.  This policy includes an annual rent review, and the setting of rent at 70% of the current market rate for eligible tenants. Under this policy tenants that don’t meet the means testing criteria can remain as tenants but will be asked to pay market rent.  This is no different to Porirua City Council's own intention to review rents at Moana Court as discussed at several resident meetings.  The first annual rent review for all Moana Court residents will be in the 2014 calendar year.
